Love At The Right Time
Song 5:2 - 6:9
The love in song of songs find its expression in a relationship of total commitment to one another, that is in marriage. Therefore there are three warnings not to stir or awaken love before its time, and the whole song holds together the intensity of their longing for one another with their commitment not to come together until they are married.
Introducing the ‘charges’ in the song and the tension they raise. How can express the passions of love while also express the patience of waiting for the right time?
2. The Object of Our Longing
Unpacking the passage. Exploring the example of how our lady talks about her lover and reflecting on how from a woman’s point of view, a woman may speak about her man.
3. Love at the Right Time
Hold up the charge laid amidst expressions of longing in our passage against the other three charges against awakening love before its time. Why does this tension exist, and what can we do about it?
4. Now and Not Yet
Expanding upon the tension of the Song to reflect upon the tension all God’s people bear with as we live between the cross and the resurrection.
Extraordinary General Meeting, 27th Nov 11am – 11:30am

Song of Songs sermon series in November
The Song of Songs is a celebration of romantic love expressed between a man and a woman within marriage under God. This celebration helps us better grasp the invitation God makes to everyone through Jesus to live with Him in His kingdom.
Why are we studying it?
- To build a theology of romantic love and desire
- To learn how we might express our own desires and our longings for that love to be returned in kind, and how we might support others to do likewise.
- To begin grasping the grand dimensions of God’s love toward us in Jeuss through the narrow yet rich and colourful lens of human romantic love.
